ROCKSHIELD is a new patented overhead hydraulic safety canopy with a unique shock-absorption system for the man-baskets, designed to protect the worker from the impact of a rockfall.
ROCKSHIELD will reduce the number of injuries and fatalities to Mine workers during the scaling operation in underground mines. It was designed with the Miners’ safety and welfare at the centre of the design process.
ROCKSHIELD’s canopy will prevent falling rocks from injuring operators during a rockfall, whilst the impact absorption system will significantly reduce the vibration sustained by the Miner.
It has been independently verified in simulated rockfall tests (as specified by ISO 3449*) that the overhead canopy yields less than 10cm under an average impact force of 128.75 kN
(equivalent to 13 tonnes). ROCKSHIELD’s patented impact-absorbing technology also attenuates floor vibration during impact thereby affording occupants the maximum protection.
* ISO 3449:2008 specifies dropping a mass of 250kgs from a height of 5Mts
